Brindle Tutorial

Description

Too lazy to deal with PS and write on the image so I'm explaining it here

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THESE ON DIFFERENT LAYERS
Download if you want to see each step on its own.

1
Lay down your base.

2
Quickly scribble some brindling onto your dog. Use a hard brush and blur later. The brush should be large and you shouldn't put too much thought into your strokes. Try not to make them jagged/zig zagged. They should be smooth and natural looking like brindle.

3
Blur step 2 with a large brush

4
Begin adding brindle with a medium sized brush. I use airbrush setting with a special brush setting normally. For this tutorial since you guys don't have my brush, I've gone ahead and used the Acrylic brush setting for this tutorial. I highly suggest using it, it will give you pretty much the same result as my brush. The brindle should be darker than your base coat. Try to keep the pattern in line with the scribbles from step 2. Make it flow naturally, brindle isn't perfect.

5
Use a light color from your base coat and do step 4 with the color. Color over your darker color.

6
Go back over everything like step 4 and 5, but this time use a slightly smaller brush, and a darker color than you used for the brindle. Again, follow the lines you've already made and let it flow naturally and smooth.

7
Use a color slightly lighter than from step 5. It should be lighter than all the colors on your dog currently. Use this color and do step 6.

8
Use your brindle color and add some darker/muddier spots on the dog. This will make it look more natural and uneven like brindle. Do large blotches over areas like the paws, shoulder, tail, face, ears, and between the legs, these are areas where brindle is generally not as strong on dogs, but you can put it anywhere you feel like. Don't over do it.

9
Blur step 8 with a large brush

10
Use a color lighter than 7. This is going to be your lightest color. Make your brush small and lower the density and add finer details. This is where you can draw individual strokes and thinner brindling to make it seem sharper while still keeping it blended and natural.

11
Add markings, and you're done!
